About us
The Mach Company producing day-old broiler chicks was founded in the year 1992. Its head office and own hatchery are situated in the historical building in Litomyšl Hraběnčin dvůr, which has been lovingly reconstructed to bring back its glory from the origins of 1660. Currently is the largest company with its state of the art hatcheries in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
In the thirty years of the companies existence, the business has undergone dynamic developments and the hatchery has increased capacity from the initial 200,000 to the current 2,500,000 chicks per week; the capacity of the farms then increased annually to 2,1 million birds and the production of hatching eggs has increased to 300 million.
In 2017, the company has again expanded its operations with its own fattening farms, where it monitors the quality of its own one-day broiler chicks.
In the Czech Republic, the supply of day-old broiler chicks is constantly increasing. The company currently has a 35% share of the market for one-day-old broiler chicks. It also has a dominant position in Slovakia and exports to both the EU and third world countries.
How our history was written
Three years after the November events of 1989, Ing. Jiří Mach founded a company in Litomyšl that became one of the most successful agricultural enterprises in the Czech Republic during its quarter-century of existence. The company Mach – Litomyšl chicken hatchery has specialized from the beginning mainly in the production of one-day-old broiler chickens. Since 2003, it has been newly registered with the Regional Court in Hradec Králové under the name Mach drůbež, a. s.
Jiří Mach continued the long-standing family tradition that began with František Mach, who began to engage in poultry farming in the 1920s. In 1927, he founded his first hatchery in Kosoř near Prague. Over the years, he moved the business to Křinice near Broumov, where he bred Leghorn laying hens. He was only able to continue his business until the early 1950s. At that time, he was declared a kulak by the communist regime and imprisoned.
His grandson Jiří Mach later began to engage in poultry farming on the state farm in Broumov, despite various obstacles that he had to overcome. He worked there until 1968, when he won a competition to become the head of the Xaverov hatchery in Litomyšl. However, in 1980, the new director of the Pardubice headquarters dismissed him.
He gained further experience in poultry farming as a zootechnician at the state farm in Svitavy, where he also dealt with beef cattle breeding. In 1989, he became independent and began working as a specialized consultant for surrounding agricultural enterprises. In 1992, he purchased the premises of the former Xaverov plant in Litomyšl as part of a large privatization, thus laying the foundation for his further business.
The company's headquarters are located in a sensitively renovated historical building, which was built around 1660 as an exhibition farmstead by Marie Klára of Dietrichštejn, the first wife of the then owner of the Litomyšl estate, Jan Fridrich of Trautmannsdorf. The building was named Rosenstein after the Trautmannsdorf roses on the facade.
Today, this immovable cultural monument is known as the Countess's Courtyard.
Development and direction of the company
In 1992, Jiří Mach began building the company MACH DRŮBEŽ A.S., which now operates a total of 25 farms in the Czech Republic (including its headquarters in Litomyšl). A very important step in the development of the company was the establishment of a complex operational chain in Slovakia, which currently has seven farms with hatcheries. In the Czech Republic, the company now has approximately a 35 % share in the day-old broiler chicks market. It also has a dominant position in Slovakia.
The family business managed by Richard Mach currently represents one of the largest and most modern hatchery complexes in the Czech and Slovak Republics. At the same time, it meets the latest European standards. During its more than thirty years of existence, it has undergone dynamic development and increased its hatchery capacity from its original 200,000 to the current 2,5 million chicks per week, the capacity of the farms has increased to 2,1 million birds per year and the production of hatching eggs to 300 million eggs.
In 2023, the company has again expanded its operations with its own fattening farms, where it monitors the quality of its own one-day broiler chicks. It wants to further develop this trend in the future.
Strategy and marketing
The main goal of the company is to constantly increase the production and quality of hatched chicks, and thus increase the share of the domestic market and export of the Czech Republic. Therefore, it strives to improve all primary and secondary production processes so that it meets the latest requirements for poultry breeding based on the best available techniques (BAT).
Customer satisfaction is ensured by annual training of its employees or by organizing professional seminars for clients in cooperation with parents' suppliers. It is also actively involved in research in cooperation with the Veterinary Research Institute in Brno. It also provides professional service and consultations through trained representatives and veterinarians.
Sponsorship - support for Litomyšl and the surrounding area
For a long time, the company has been sponsoring various charity, sports and cultural events, mainly in Litomyšl.
Since 2016, MACH DRŮBEŽ A.S. has been an official partner of Smetana’s Litomyšl, the second-oldest and also the largest music festival in the Czech Republic.
In the world of sport, the company has sponsored, amongst others, the ascent of Mount Everest by a team of Czech and Slovak mountaineers in 2007.
It is also a long-time sponsor of sports clubs, associations and, last but not least, Litomyšl Hospital.

Smetanova Litomyšl 30/6/2025
As in previous years, this year we supported the 67th annual Smetana Litomyšl National Festival. One of the most important festivals of classical music and opera and the largest cultural event in Litomyšl returned to the castle this year after a two-year break. In the 2nd courtyard, the so-called Smetana Hall was created by architect Josef Pleskot, who designed several important buildings here in Litomyšl.
The company Mach drůbež a.s. supported the creation of the hall with a significant amount, because we believe that such a stage makes great sense for the future of the festival! Thanks to this, Smetana Litomyšl is becoming a European festival and we are there!
Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to the next years!
Successful MACH – COBB seminar for broiler farmers 06/12/2024
On October 29, 2024, a seminar focused on broiler farming was held in Litomyšl, attracting a large number of breeders and experts from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The event, organized by MACH DRŮBEŽ in cooperation with COBB GERMANY at the Zlatá Hvězda Hotel, offered participants valuable information about current trends in broiler production. The seminar aimed to support the professional knowledge of breeders who are facing the challenging task of fattening chickens in the face of increasing energy and feed costs, changes in legislation and increasing welfare requirements.
The opening speech was given by MACH's sales director René Krivý, who introduced the attendees to the company's current production. James Truscott, director of COBB GERMANY, then spoke in his presentation about the challenges facing chicken production worldwide. The next lecture, which was followed by Ron Meijerhof, Cobb consultant, was devoted to the fattening of chickens from young parent flocks up to 30 weeks of age.
Lubor Skalka then spoke about the improving trends in the construction of new fattening houses with adequate tunnel ventilation, which in times of ever-increasing numbers of tropical days is becoming an important factor not only in terms of productivity but also in terms of chicken welfare. Saeid Najati, technical specialist for chicken fattening at Cobb Germany, mentioned in particular the advantage of fattening Cobb broilers, which can be fed both highly concentrated feed and feed with lower nutrient levels.
The last very interesting presentation was given by Gabriela Dlouhá, chairwoman of the Czech-Moravian Poultry Union. In addition to summarizing the main indicators of the balance of production and consumption of poultry meat in the Czech Republic, she dealt with the possible negative consequences of introducing restrictions that activists are promoting within the framework of the European Chicken Commitment requirements.
The seminar in Litomyšl was an example of a successful event that offered breeders not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical advice and skills that can help them make their breeding practice more efficient.
This seminar became an excellent platform for professionals in the field to meet and exchange experiences, which is always very useful for the future of broiler breeding in the Czech and Slovak Republics.
Ross 308 broiler fattening
On April 27, 2023, we welcomed more than 80 participants to a seminar on the topic of Fattening Ross 308 broilers in Litomyšl. We organized the seminar in cooperation with experts from Aviagen KFT. The speakers covered topics focused on the start of broiler fattening, ventilation of halls, broiler production and its efficiency, or the genetic potential of Ross 308. Last but not least, the current information from the Agrarian Chamber was provided to the participants by the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Czech-Moravian Poultry Union, Ing. Gabriela Dlouhá, Ph.D., MPA.
We believe that the seminar was beneficial for all participants. Our big thanks also go to the speakers, and we are already looking forward to the next year.
